Key Monastery
A 1,000-year-old monastery on a hilltop above the Spiti river. We join the morning prayers and have butter tea with the monks.

Eight days through Kinnaur and Spiti: cliffside roads, thousand-year-old monasteries, fossil villages and a night under the stars at Chandratal
Four highlights that make this trip special. Optional ones are marked.

A 1,000-year-old monastery on a hilltop above the Spiti river. We join the morning prayers and have butter tea with the monks.

The moon lake at 4,300 m. One night in Swiss tents beside it, under the clearest sky you will ever see.

The 4,551 m pass between Spiti and Lahaul, strung with prayer flags. Our last big view of the trip.

The high villages: fossils in the fields, the giant Buddha of Langza and a postcard from the world’s highest post office.

Overnight Volvo arrives in Shimla at sunrise; the tempo traveller takes us up through apple country to Narkanda.

Into Kinnaur along the Sutlej gorge, with your first look at the Kinner Kailash range from Kalpa.

The landscape turns from green to gold. We stop at Nako lake and reach Tabo, home to a monastery founded in 996 AD.

Morning at Tabo’s mud-walled monastery, then up to Dhankar fort hanging off a cliff before reaching Kaza.

An easy acclimatisation day around Kaza with the iconic monastery and Asia’s highest suspension bridge.

The high villages above Kaza: fossils, the giant Buddha and postcards home.

Over Kunzum Pass to the moon lake. Swiss tents for the night.

Down through Batal and the Atal Tunnel to Manali for lunch, and the overnight Volvo back to Delhi.

“Spiti is where Peaks & Trails began. I have done this circuit more than 70 times and it still surprises me: the colours at Dhankar at 6 AM, the monks at Key who will pour you butter tea if you sit still long enough. We go the long way through Kinnaur on purpose, so your body has time to adjust before Kaza. Pack warm, come curious.”
Rohit bhaiya made this trip. He knew every homestay family by name and stopped exactly where the light was best. Chandratal night was unreal.
Superbly paced. Nobody got sick because we went via Kinnaur. Food in the homestays was the highlight.
Went solo, came back with a new group of friends. The portal had everything: PNR, payment status, packing list.
Long drive days, but that is Spiti. Tempo was clean and the driver was very safe on the Kinnaur roads.
Langza at sunrise and the stargazing session were worth the whole trip. Excellent value for the price.
Second trip with Peaks & Trails. Professional, honest about road conditions and super responsive on WhatsApp.
Only BSNL and Jio work reliably in Kaza. Expect no network for most of Days 2-3 and at Chandratal. Our trip leader carries a satellite phone.
Kaza is at 3,800 m. We climb slowly through Kinnaur so your body adjusts. Drink 4 litres of water a day, avoid alcohol for the first two days, and tell the trip leader early if you feel unwell.
Yes. Every homestay we use has been visited by our team, with clean bedding and attached western washrooms. Hot water is by bucket in some villages.
Landslides happen in the mountains. We reroute or hold for a few hours; any extra night caused by a road closure is shared at cost, and we always tell you what changed and why.
Yes, pick the "Join from Chandigarh" option. The group picks you up at Sector 43 ISBT at 4:30 AM on Day 1.
